SHARING WATER WITH PIGS: AN ACT OF COMPASSION, NOT “CRIMINAL MISCHIEF”

SHARING WATER WITH PIGS: AN ACT OF COMPASSION, NOT “CRIMINAL MISCHIEF”

Blog
Sharing water with innocent pigs on route to slaughter…an act of “criminal mischief” or an act of kindness and compassion? The court has sided with the latter. ANITA KRAJNC: Anita Krajnc is a longtime animal activist, holds a PhD, and was an aid to a former Canadian Minister of Environment. It goes without saying that her passion for environmental and animal justice seeps into all aspects of her life. One of her most recognizable roles is being the co-founder of Toronto Pig Save, which “exists to erect glass walls at area slaughterhouses, encourage plant-based vegan living, and bear witness to the pigs during vigil.” When activists stand firm in their beliefs through times of political pressure and distress, their true commitment to the cause shines through. This couldn’t be closer…

Photo credit: CBC News Keeping their enemies close, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is taking a corporate stand against animal cruelty. PETA VS. CANADA GOOSE Adorning placards that read “Friends Not Fashion” and “Wear Your Own Skin,” coyote-masked PETA activists lined up in front of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on March 16. Their purpose? To protest the Initial Public Offering of the Canada Goose stock, on the first day it went public on the NYSE and the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX). Canada Goose was founded in 1957 under the name Metro Sportswear Ltd. Their winter wear is made with animal furs and feathers—coyote fur on the hoods and down made from duck feathers. Protesting against the inhumane capturing, trapping, and treatment of coyotes—whose fur is…

The Sanctuary That’s Saving Farm Animals

Blog
A safe haven for animals rescued from slaughter farms, Cedar Row Farm Sanctuary has rescued hundreds of farm animals since it opened in 1999. The outgrowth of a wildlife rescue farm, Cedar Row’s first rescue was of six pygmy goats who, once nourished and cared for, grew to each weigh 200 pounds. As of 2015, the farm sanctuary has rescued dozens of animals and placed them in safe homes, including: 2 goats, 5 rabbits, 18 pot bellied pigs, 84 battery hens, 8 ducks, 17 backyard hens, 7 turkeys, 1 donkey, and D’Arcy the pig. Despite early resistance from nearby farmers, Siobhan and Peter Poole have always remained proud of their efforts and believe wholeheartedly in their cause: “Of course we cannot save every animal, but we have made a difference…
